I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

In about two hours I'm leaving for Europe!!! I'm still not entirely packed and I should really be stressing right now but for some reason I'm not. I'll probably remember 100 things I forgot as soon as I get to the airport but let's hope not. So for the next 12-13ish days I'll be in Germany, Poland, and Czech Republic. I don't know if I'll have time to post anything but I will definitely try! Ok, I should really finish packing.

Snood

Monday, February 25, 2008

I am a very competitive person. I noticed that one of my co-workers beat a few of my highest scores on Snood (which weren't very high at all), and I could not resist the urge to go in and beat them all. Well, all except for the number 1 slot which is four times higher than my highest score by an anonymous player. Who scores that high and doesn't feel the need to put their name in? Maybe I'm a little too competitive... I've been a vegetarian for almost 6 years now because I made a bet with someone. I don't really like to lose. I can also become very obnoxious when I know I'm right about something. I hate that about me and I know other people do too. I've tried to tone myself down.

I leave for Europe tomorrow!! I still haven't begun packing and I have a lot of shopping that I need to get done. Along with being competitive I also enjoy procrastinating. I don't know why.

Well I'm supposed to be cutting out Easter Eggs for donation baskets at work but I thought this would be more enjoyable. I should probably get back to that.

P.S. My boss mentioned a dentist appointment that she had to leave early for... I think we found the missing tooth culprit...

"Tooth Found, Claim If Yours"

Friday, February 22, 2008

My boss went home from work because of the snow storm we're having at the moment which means I sit at the main desk instead of the nice hidden one in the office to the left of me. The school is technically closed so I could go home but it is the last day to make payments for an alternative spring break program that goes through here, so there are a lot of students stopping by. Anyway, I'm sitting at the main desk and I look down and there's a little whitish thing sitting on the desk. On closer inspection I realize it's a tooth! Um... what? How do you lose a tooth and not notice it's gone and sitting on the desk in front of you? And the even bigger question is, whose tooth is it!? Because I began gagging, I tried pushing it away under the computer so I don't have to see it but it flipped over and I saw that it was actually only half a tooth. It looks like the front half of someones tooth just fell off. The rotted back, by the way, is much more disgusting than the front. Just thinking about it makes me want to throw up. I don't even know what to do with it? Do I like attach it to a post-it with a sign saying "Tooth Found, Claim If Yours"? Or would a "Front half of tooth looking for soul mate back half of tooth to eat long picnics on the beach" sound better? Does anyone actually want it back? If they didn't, why would they leave it right in front of the computer?? I would throw it away but that would require digging it out from under the computer and also looking at it again... which I don't think I would survive.

Anyway, it's finally Friday! I have spent the last two weeks doing work almost non-stop. Taking six courses was a bad idea on my part but the worst of it is over (I hope). I would basically wake up at nine (even though I don't have class until 11:30) do work for a few hours, go to class and/or work, then go back to do homework until about 1 in the morning. Wednesday night I had a two hour exam for my LC seminar and now that it is over I just have my trip to look forward to! We leave Tuesday around 1:00. I think our flight is around 6:00, leaving from Logan. I'm not even sure what airline we are taking. We only saw our tickets for a minute so I guess it will be a surprise!

I really need to start packing. I have no idea what I need to actually bring or what I need to buy. I should have been on top of this weeks ago but I was just way too busy with school (or at least that's the excuse I'm going with). I need to also invest in some Airborne or EmergenC. If you haven't heard- the flu shots given out this year were not for the strain of flu that is actually going around. That doesn't really affect me however because I didn't have time to get a flu shot this year anyway. I'm just hoping that I don't get sick before my trip and even more so on my trip. I think the large quantities of green tea that I consume daily is the only thing keeping me health right now.

Well this post was a lot longer than I was expecting it to be and I'm hoping everyone decides to leave here early so I can sneak out too, but we'll see how that goes.

My Friday

Friday, February 8, 2008

Well I'm at work right now. It's finally Friday. I love only having one class in the morning on Friday but then I have a few hours of work to look foward to. At least by the end of the week even my boss is too tired to really make me do any work. I work at Campus Ministry by the way. I basically do all of the office work/behind the scenes stuff for the Church.

I have to go lock up. I'll finish this later.

six hours later...

I was going to talk about my views on the Church/religion but that desire has completely left me now. I'm sure it will come back considering how much time I spend there (pretending) to work. For now I'm just going to go back to being a loser on a Friday night with nothing better to do but get some work done.

Free Time

Thursday, February 7, 2008

This is honestly the first moment of free time that I've had all week. And by free time I mean not having to cram in class/work/homework and being able to breathe for a hour or two. I still have about 500 pages of reading to do by Wednesday but if I keep going at this pace I'll be lucky if I make to Wednesday. Plus Lost was on tonight which means an automatic stop from work (no matter how much I have). If you don't watch that show I fully advise you to go out and buy the first three seasons. You won't regret it. I have about ten people that have done this and have finished all three seasons in under two weeks.

I've officially applied to school in Russia. I just have to wait to be accepted now. I've also gotten my two history courses approved; Russian History from Kievan Russia to Russian Revolution, and Contemporary Russia. Now I just need to get my Russian language course approved which is worth something ridiculous like nine credits but of course nothing can be easy so I need to meet with another women to get that signed off.

Europe in 19 days!

Weekend

Monday, February 4, 2008

What a long weekend. Friday night I had to attend a Jewish Shabbat service for my Learning Community. I've already written a nine page analysis on it so I'm not going to go into much detail but I will say that it was very interesting and not how I expected it to be at all. They were very welcoming and even laid back. It was a reform temple so I'm guessing the orthodox temples we will be attending in Europe will not be quite the same.

I spent about ten hours Saturday doing work. A little bit of trying to catch up and a lot of just getting what was needed done. I'm almost all caught up but I have an almost unbearable amount of work that needs to get done by the 13th. After that though everything looks like smooth sailing.

Sunday... I don't really want to talk about Sunday. Let's just say I'm a Pats fan and Sunday was not a good day for me. I've (almost) successfully ignored all newspapers, news shows, and anything on the internet relating to what happened last night and I don't think I'll be ready to talk about it for another week or so. That's ok... 10 days until pitchers and catchers start for the Red Sox!

Tomorrow is Super Tuesday so I hope you all go out and vote! I've already sent in my absentee ballot.
