Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July everyone!  I know it's not quite the 4th in the US, but it is here in Dublin!
4th of July 2011 - Boston
I was sitting here trying to figure out how I was going to celebrate the day when I realize that this is the first time I have been out of the United States on the 4th.  I think I've missed every other major holiday at least once, but this is my first 4th abroad.

Those thoughts then brought on thoughts of home.  It's now July which means I will officially be leaving next month (though I haven't booked a flight yet), but I still have been having some nostalgic feelings for home.  Just the small things like smelling the ocean, a bbq, a rain storm that in my mind should end with a big lightening show but doesn't.

I have loved my time here in Dublin, but I can't help but look forward to getting back to my life in the US.  I've been looking around my room at the things I will soon have to pack and take home with me,  but there are so many more things I've bought or accumulated that I can't.  I have so many things for the apartment that make this place feel a little bit more like home but they will stay here when I leave.  This also means that they are all things I will have to purchase again when I decide to move somewhere else.

As much as I love traveling, I think I've reached the point where I'm ready to set up a more stable home base. I want to be able to decorate a place without having to worry about having to un-decorate it months later,  or questioning whether a certain purchase will be worth the investment for a certain period of time.

I would like to know that I'll be able to enjoy the 4th of July and camping trips and graduations and family Christmas parties for years to come.  Even though I've missed those this year it has absolutely been worth it.  More importantly, I think an even greater value came from realizing how important those all are to me.

Anyway, I hope you all (at home and abroad) have a great 4th of July.  Someone enjoy fireworks for me please!
Not taken on the 4th but just some of the people/places I'm missing!
