I love winter, but this is getting to be a little too much.  I'm not even sure what our snow total for the winter has been, but we've gotten a foot+ once a week for the last three or four weeks.  If I'm standing in the road, I can't see my own house over the snow banks.

To make up for all the snow I went out and bought myself some flower and started planning for a spring garden... if I ever get to see the ground again.
 
I also went out last night to get fruity drinks and pretend that it wasn't blizzarding outside.  It didn't last long, but it was nice while it lasted.

While sitting in traffic on my way home from work last night I got a text that my parents, sister, and niece were going to the mall and out to dinner if I wanted to join them.  The mall is pretty much hell on earth for me, but I'll never say no to a free meal so I decided to go.

I don't understand how people ever voluntarily go to places like malls.  Especially on a Friday night. There were so many young people running around every where.  Everyone was making so much noise.  I ended up finding a little couch in the food court and just sat there waiting for everyone.  I know I'm on a fast track to becoming a hermit, but after last night I'm totally ok with that.

Luckily I did have the niece to entertain me for a bit... even if she's too cool to take pictures with me.
From there we head to the 99's.  My parents go there pretty regularly but I haven't been in a while.  I didn't realize people still really went there.  We had a 45 minute wait that apparently everyone else was ok with.  I ended up sitting next to one of the most obnoxious people I've ever experienced.  I'm sure you know the type.  They think they are the most hilarious person on the planet so they talk as loud as possible to share their amazingness with everyone in the room.  Except they are not even close to as funny as they think they are.

By the time we got our seats and food I was ready to be home and in bed.  Luckily the baby was feeling the same way so I could use her as my excuse for want to sneak out.

Luckily we've got three days of snow in the forecast which means I've done my civic duty and graced the world with my presence long enough for one weekend.

Now time for the couch and a 30 Rock marathon!

Three Months With A Personal Trainer

Back when I signed up at my local gym I decided to splurge and get a personal trainer for a while.  I knew it was going to be expensive, but my main goal was to get myself comfortable with all of the machines so that when I'm on my own I'm confident enough to design my own workouts.  I didn't have any weight related goals, but I did want to feel stronger.

I signed up for two half hour sessions a week with the trainer and made sure to go at least twice a week on my own.  I would say about 80% of my time at the gym over these past three months has been weight training.  I always tried to get some cardio in before my training sessions, but I was usually rushing right from work and was lucky to get in a 5 minute warm up.

So the results?

For one, I definitely feel good about the machines.  I knew most of the basic ones, but there were some that I would not have even touched before going over them with the trainer.  And even now after three months I still have to really stop and think about some of them.

I also feel a lot stronger.  Parts of me that were a little mushy before aren't so much any more, and parts that weren't as mushy actually feel pretty toned.

While my weight has barely changed, there has clearly been progress on all of my other measurements (except my hips of course, those puppies will never go away).  I'd like to think that is from successfully building muscle while also burning a little fat.

I know it's kind of weird sharing my measurements, but they wouldn't be the weirdest things I've shared on this blog so I'm going to anyway!

I still have a lot of work to do to get where I want to be, but my time with the trainer was a great foundation to work from and gave me a lot of motivation and confidence going forward.

Food Prep

Despite not being very skillful in the kitchen, I really enjoy prepping food.  A while back I shared my Breakfast Smoothie prep.  I loved being able to pull a bag out of the freezer, blend it for a minute, and be out the door with my breakfast.

I liked it so much I decided to do something similar for my lunches.  It's so much easier making heathy choices when there really isn't a choice to be made.  I prep five meals on a Sunday and wake up each morning, grab one, and go.

I go grocery shopping and come out with about 10 items (woo express checkout!) and spend about $30.  This is enough food for 10 breakfasts and 5 lunches. All of it fresh fruit and veggies and a little bit of chicken for protein.

It is amazing how much time this saves overall.  And the fact that I know I'll have a lunch every day makes me not even think of going to the work cafe or ordering out.

I've done some rearranging this month.  One of my friends told me that he paid off his undergrad loans last month and I became instantly jealous.  I decided to look at the breakdown of my loans and realized that what I have left from undergrad actually isn't too much (I mean if 11k isn't that much to you!).  Anyway,  I decided that I'd make a goal this year of paying off my undergrad loans.  One more thing to motivate me in this whole process!

I also added a couple of savings accounts.  Now that my credit cards are taken care of I want to make sure I have an emergency fund built up.  I also want to set aside money for my trip in May.  I was going to do $3000 for that, but I've already booked a few things for the trip so I've lowered the goal on that one a bit.
